Canada CPI Preview

Statistics Canada will release September Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on Wednesday, 19th October at 15.30 GMT+3.

Economists expect inflation will ease for a third straight month in September but still remain significantly higher than the Bank of Canada’s two percent target.

The median estimate from economists tracked by Bloomberg is for a 6.8 percent year-over-year increase in Canada’s consumer price index (CPI) during September. In August, Statistics Canada reported inflation rose seven percent on a year-over-year basis, which was down from 7.6 percent in July.

With inflation running well above its two percent target, the Bank of Canada is expected to deliver another interest rate hike, making it the sixth consecutive increase this year.
